Apprenticeship

Most of the IAE-Aix Master’s programmes (except for the Master’s in Research, Human Resources Management and Global Innovation Management) are open to apprenticeship. The will to accustom students to the corporate world is one of the priorities of the IAE. Apprenticeship enables a large proportion of our students to put their training into practice.

The apprenticeship programme

Offered within the framework of the CFA EPURE MÉDITERRANNÉE, the apprenticeship programme allows companies and the IAE-Aix to confirm their commitment by contributing to a greater professionalization of high-level education.

An agreement of apprenticeship proposed by the IAE-Aix formalises its will to insure the theoretical training of the student and to provide him or her with the most advanced educational means. It also formalises the will of the firm to guide the apprentice through professional work and to participate in the financial effort for this by a contribution*, which can be imputed to the apprenticeship tax.

*The tuition for an apprentice in the IAE-Aix is estimated at €8,400 a year. It is largely financed by the apprenticeship tax of the company (for example: €8,400 in 2007-2008).

Who are our apprentices?

IAE-Aix apprentices come from a wide variety of academic backgrounds. Some are engineers, lawyers, business school, science or language graduates, and all come to complete their educations either in a dual competence or a specialisation in another field of Management.

Selected according to their skills, motivation and professional goals, they are determined to become managers or specialists in the corporate world.

Legislation

The apprenticeship work contract is a fixed-term one-year contract. Apprentices must be under 26 years old when the contract is signed. It is signed by both the hiring company and the apprentice, submitted for approval by the CFA Epure Méditerranée, and filed with the DDTE (Direction Départementale du Travail et de l'Emploi - Départemental Labour and Employment Department).

Students who are not French can now, under certain conditions, become apprentices and benefit from the advantages of an apprenticeship contract. (For more information: http://www.aftia.org/apprentis/etudiants_etrangers.html).

An apprentice is a paid employee of the company but is also a student with both sets of rights and duties. The apprentice receives a salary, with a minimum equal to 61% of the SMIC (the French minimum wage).

BRAND NEW

Students who do not have French nationality can now, under certain conditions, become apprentices and benefit from the advantages of an apprenticeship contract. (For more information www.cfa-epure.com).

Selection

An apprentice is selected by both the company and the IAE-Aix. The company can choose among the IAE-Aix applicants or select its own applicant. In the same way, an applicant can apply for apprenticeship with the corporations selected by the IAE-Aix or request another company.

Candidates are evaluated on the following bases:

  • At the level of the IAE-Aix:
    • application form
    • GMAT Test
    • Interview
    • TOEFL or TOEIC Test
  • At the level of the company:
    • application cover letter
    • Interview
    • Tests

Academic Calendar

An apprentice spends the first three months of training at the IAE-Aix where he or she is followed by a tutor to acquire the fundamentals of his or her future job under continuous faculty assessment.

An apprentice spends the next two or three months in the firm. Practical work starts with a mission decided by the corporation and the IAE-Aix. Integration, coordination, support and guidance are provided by the Apprenticeship Advisor.

The next two months are spent at the IAE-Aix, focusing on specific skills, selected by the apprentice to fulfil his or her curriculum. An apprentice works on the mission with the guidance of his or her Academic Advisor, selected for his or her particular field of specialisation.

The last four months are then spent on the corporate mission, which brings a real opportunity to put the curriculum into practice. This mission is evaluated.

The school year concludes with the presentation of a personal project to a jury composed of the Academic Advisor and of professionals, including the Apprenticeship Advisor.

The work placement or apprenticeship must take place in a public or private service firm or be related to a service activity of an industrial firm. The work placement or apprenticeship consists in resolving a real issue that the firm has encountered. The participant must develop a methodology that is capable of solving the problem(s) and then propose solutions. The work placement or apprenticeship is followed by the writing of a report and a viva voce before a professor in the specialty and an employee from the firm.
